PTG Announcements for Week of September 21

How do you want your information to appear in this year’s student directory?
Family contact information will be downloaded very soon from Aspen to publish this year’s CMS student directory.  To ensure that your family’s listings will be correct in the printed directory, please do these three things:

  1. Log into Aspen and check your contact information in each child’s record ASAP
  2. Make sure that the field in Aspen called “Use Student/Family Info in PTG Directory” is marked YES
  3. If you make changes to the data in Aspen, please let us know at news@cmsptg.org so that we can ensure the changes make it into the directory.

6th Grade Back to School Night is This Week!
6th grade parents and guardians are invited to meet their child’s teachers at a virtual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 24 from 6:30 to 8pm via Zoom videoconference.  Mark your calendars!  Further information to come from Principal Cameron as the event gets closer.  The 7th/8th grade night will be held next week.

Welcome from Your New CMS PTG Co-Presidents
The new Co-Presidents of your CMS Parent Teacher Group (PTG), Anna Travias and Kristin Martines, offered a welcome and their perspective on the year ahead in our first newsletter.  If you missed it last week, you can still read it here.

Picture Day Postponed
Our annual student portrait day has been postponed from its usual September timing to late April or early May of 2021.  Photograph packages will be distributed before the end of the school year.

After-School Clubs
Even in this strange year, CMS is proud to offer a rich selection of after-school clubs and activities for its students.  If you missed last week’s Club Expo, it’s not too late to participate.  Here’s how:

  1. Check out the list of after-school clubs and a description of each here
  2. Watch the CMS Daily Announcements for information on how to sign up and when/where/how each club will meet.  Not all clubs start at the beginning of the year, so there is always something cool coming up.

We Need YOU!
The CMS PTG is a volunteer-run group that relies on parents and guardians to help us operate.  We are grateful to those who have already raised a hand to volunteer.  We are still looking for a few people to work on teacher/staff appreciation projects, producing this weekly newsletter, fundraising and student assemblies throughout the year.  Click here to see a listing of volunteer projects with signup sheets for each one.

Future PTG Meetings
Your PTG meets on the third Friday of each month (2nd Friday in February) to discuss upcoming student events and projects, and to hear updates from CMS and district administration.  In this unusual year, we are especially interested in fresh ideas on ways to enrich the CMS experience for students and their families.  Please join us to brainstorm, or just to listen in!  All meetings will be held virtually this year, with a link to the Zoom teleconference shared via this newsletter in the days before each meeting.

The PTG has been happy to partner with CMS administration to bring a special guest speaker to the assembly on the first day of school and to provide each family with complimentary student planners. 
We hope your students were inspired and entertained by our opening day speaker.  Student planners were distributed during homeBASE on September 10 to ensure everyone received one. We thank you for the financial contributions to the PTG that have made this possible!


A huge thanks to our district and CMS administration for their professional and swift response to a student COVID case last week.  Many thanks also to the CMS custodial staff for their tireless work to ensure that our school buildings were properly cleaned to be safe for students and staff to return this week.

The CMS PTG relies exclusively on parent contributions to support our students. We typically spend $100 per student, but we appreciate each and every donation, no matter how big or small!
We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization
Your donation is 100% tax-deductible. We are also eligible for company matches.
